Program-Record 20 Minutewomen Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad

Massachusetts and Towson tied for the most honorees in Division I field hockey

GILBERT, Ariz. – University of Massachusetts field hockey placed a program-record 20 student-athletes on the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, announced Tuesday by the NFHCA. The 20 honorees for the Minutewomen also was tied with Towson for the national lead. Student-athletes included on the list carried a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average through the Fall 2019 semester.
 
Massachusetts student-athletes on the list include Michelle Barrett, Jess Beech, Kaitlin Broda, Lucy Cooper, Megan Davies, Sara Davis, Sophie de Jonge, Mus Defauwes, Maggie Ellington, Maddie Ellnor, Emma Ewas, Katherine Furry, Jenna Garber, Steph Gottwals, Sophie Johnson, Emilie Keij, Bailey McNamara, Georgie McTear, Josie Rossbach and Marlise van Tonder.
 
The announcement also continues a string of academic accolades rolling into Amherst. On March 3, the Maroon and White earned the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award with a team grade-point average of 3.66, fifth in the nation among all Division I programs. It was a remarkable semester in the classroom for the squad, with 17 student-athletes turning in a Dean's List performance at 3.5 or above. Two Minutewomen had perfect 4.0 GPAs.
 
In total, 1,052 student-athletes from 75 Division I schools were named to the National Academic Squad.
