March 01, 2020 | Women's Track & Field

Senior Jada Harris was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer and Julie LaFreniere took home her 13th career Coach of the Year accolade.

KINGSTON, R.I. – After collecting six medals on day two, University of Massachusetts women's track and field captured its fourth Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship on Sunday afternoon at Rhode Island's Mackal Fieldhouse. The Minutewomen finished with a score of 120.5 points, knocking off two-time defending champion VCU, who took second place with 107 points, followed closely by URI with 103.5.

The title marked UMass' first indoors since 2016 in addition to its 1996 and 1998 championships. In her final year at the helm for the Minutewomen, head coach Julie LaFreniere was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 13th time in her career.

Senior Jada Harris claimed two of UMass' four gold medals on the final day of action, winning high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches, and once again matching the meet record with the top time in the 60 meter hurdles final at 8.45 seconds. That brought her total to three medals for the meet, including a silver in long jump on Saturday to earn her Most Outstanding Field Performer recognition.

The Minutewomen also won gold in 500m and 200m on day two. Senior Emilie Cowan ran 1 minute, 13.18 seconds to her fourth career title in 500m, while junior Bryanna Rivers provided points in sixth at 1 minute, 16.41 seconds. In 200m, senior Lindsay Witt won her first career title, clocking in at 24.72 seconds, while Cowan took fourth in 25.04 seconds.

Junior Danielle Notarfrancesco threw 48 feet, 8 inches to pick up a silver medal in shot put and classmate Lauren LaDere was seventh at 42 feet, 11.75 inches. Junior Samantha Thompson earned UMass its only bronze of the day, clearing 5-7 in high jump.

Junior Ivana Nyemeck was the Minutewomen's final scorer in the field on Sunday, leaping 38 feet, 0.25 inches to fifth in triple jump.

Witt and junior Abby Collins added points in 60 meter dash in fifth (7.71), and sixth (7.73), respectively. Collins' performance marked a personal best, improving her No. 2 time in the UMass record book.

With a fourth-place finish in 4x800 meter relay at 9 minutes, 11.56 seconds, the squad of Colette O'Leary, Grace Pettengill, Ariel Christie and Alexina Hurley clinched the team title in the penultimate event of the day.

UMass then closed out the meet with Witt, Rivers, Kaela Hardy and Cowan taking fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3 minutes, 52.97 seconds.
