Need to Knows
• University of Massachusetts women's basketball finishes a quick two-game homestand on Wed., Feb. 12, hosting Atlantic 10 foe Dayton at 7 p.m. on Jack Leaman Court at the Mullins Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

• A win on Wednesday night would mark the first vs. Dayton since 2015-16 and also vault Massachusetts past its season total (16) from a year ago. The last time that the Minutewomen claimed 17 victories in a season was in 2006-07.

• The Minutewomen are aiming to get back in the win column after two tough losses at George Mason (Feb. 5) and at home vs. Fordham (Feb. 8). Most recently vs. the Rams, Massachusetts mounted a furious rally effort in the second half and closed a 16-point deficit down to one possession, but ultimately the Maroon and White could not overcome a difficult shooting second quarter in a 69-64 setback.

• Junior Sam Breen entered the starting lineup on Jan. 29 vs. Richmond and continues to make a splash. She was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Mon., Feb. 3. Breen was instrumental in the Davidson win and finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds–her third double-double since becoming eligible on Dec. 21 at Iona.

• The tandem of Breen along with senior Hailey Leidel combined for 51 points at Davidson on Sun., Feb. 2. Of that figure, 31 came in a second half rally effort that saw Massachusetts trail by as many as 13 in the third quarter.

• In a nationally-televised win over Richmond on Jan. 29, Breen made her first collegiate start and dropped a game-high 26 points on 11-of-22 shooting, while also pulling down eight rebounds. Leidel contributed 11 points, eclipsing 1,700 in her career and becoming the first player in program history to log 1,700 points, 600 rebounds and 200 assists.

• Leidel moved up to No. 3 on the Massachusetts all-time career scoring list in the game at George Washington on Jan. 26. The Brownstown, Mich. native (1,738) needs 53 points to tie former Minutewoman Octavia Thomas (1992-96; 1,791 points) for No. 2 on the list. She has made at least one three-point field goal in 45 of her last 47 games dating back to Dec. 7, 2018.

• Among multiple crucial additions for the Maroon and White this season has been the interior shot-altering presence of freshman Maeve Donnelly.  With 62 blocks on the season, Donnelly has set the freshman program record and needs six more stops to tie the program's single-season record of 68, last matched by Maggie Mulligan in 2017-18.

• The Minutewomen hit the road next for a Sun., Feb. 16 contest at Saint Louis which tips at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Following a mid-week bye next week, the squad is back home again on Sat., Feb. 22 to host Davidson at noon.
