AMHERST, Mass. – The UMass men's basketball team is back in the Mullins Center on Saturday afternoon when the Minutemen host George Washington in an Atlantic 10 matchup on NBCSN at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday's promotions
Help us welcome back the alumni who have helped build and shape the UMass Basketball program over the years! Come see who has returned to campus and we will take a look back at some iconic moments throughout the years. It is also International Students Night where we will be welcoming a new incoming group of students from all over the world. Stick around after the game for a post-game shootaround on Jack Leaman Court!

The series with George Washington
Saturday is the 73rd all-time meeting between the two teams with the Colonials holding a 43-29 record in the series. GW has won the last seven meetings, including both last season, with UMass' last win coming on Feb. 15, 2014.

Saturday is also a rematch of last season's conference tournament matchup, where despite a game-high 25 points from Keon Clergeot, UMass fell to George Washington 68-64 in overtime at the Barclays Center in the first round of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament.

Stiff competition
UMass has gone up against some of the nation's top teams, including eight currently ranked in the top-100 of the NCAA NET Rankings: Dayton (6), Rutgers (22), Akron (39), Yale (59), Saint Louis (51), Virginia (66), St. John's (74) and Harvard (88).

Home sweet home
The Minutemen are back at the Mullins Center where they are 6-2 this season. UMass is outscoring opponents by an average of 13.4 points per game and shooting 44% from three (85-of-193) at home. Carl Pierre (17.0) and Tre Mitchell (16.0) are both averaging better than 15 points per game at home, while the defense is forcing opponents into an average of 16.9 turnovers per game.

Pierre climbing the ranks
On Jan. 8 against La Salle, captain Carl Pierre became the 52nd player in team history to reach 1000 career points. His 11 points on Wednesday at St. Bonaventure moved him into sole possession of 46th on UMass' all-time scoring list.

Tre ball
Freshman Tre Mitchell had a career-high 28 points on Wednesday vs. St. Bonaventure, and is seventh in the Atlantic 10 and first among rookies averaging 15.5 points per game this season.

Double 'em up
Samba Diallo's 11 point - 14 rebound performance on Jan. 5 at Saint Louis marked the first career double-double for the sophomore. He's the third Minuteman this season to record his first-ever double-double, joining Carl Pierre (23 points, 10 rebounds at Akron) and Tre Mitchell (14 points, 12 rebounds vs. St. John's).

Diallo followed it up with a 12 point - 12 rebound night vs. La Salle on Jan. 8 for his second straight.

We'll be taking that
The Minutemen are averaging 7.5 steals per game, good for 96th in the NCAA, including a season-high 13 against Maine, the fourth time this season and fifth time in the Matt McCall era that a UMass team had at least 10 steals in a game.

The Minutemen are also 78th in the country and fourth in the conference in forced turnovers (15.29), and have forced their opponents into 20+ turnovers three times (CCSU, Maine, Saint Louis).

From deep
UMass is shooting better than 36% beyond the arc (147-of-405), and its 147 made threes are fourth in the Atlantic 10 this season and 88th in the nation. The Minutemen are 67th in the NCAA with 8.6 three-pointers per game, while Carl Pierre is 36th in the country and seventh in the A-10 from deep (50-of-123; 40.7%).
