Softball Named Top Collegiate Team In New England By The BoSox Club

UMass was honored by the BoSox Club at their yearly awards luncheon on Wednesday afternoon.

AMHERST, Mass.The University of Massachusetts softball team was tabbed the top collegiate team in New England by the BoSox Club on Wednesday afternoon at their yearly awards luncheon. The BoSox Club has been the official fan organization of the Boston Red Sox since 1967 and recognizes amateur baseball and softball teams at the annual luncheon.
 
The Minutewomen won four Atlantic 10 Conference series in 2019, including three sweeps on their way to a runner-up finish in the regular-season conference standings. The squad also earned a tournament sweep at the East Carolina Purple and Gold Invitational in March, capping off the tournament with a 5-0 shutout win over the host Pirates before adding an 8-3 road win at Boston College later in the month. UMass picked up eight all-Atlantic 10 awards, including two first-team selections in Kaitlyn Stavinoha and Erin Stacevicz. Fellow senior Kaycee Carbone was named NFCA All-Northeast Region to go along with an academic all-district nod. As a team, the Minutewomen had three hitters post averages of .336 or better offensively as the team hit .294 on the year.
