Tennis Concludes First Fall Tournament Slate At Brown

Minutewomen claimed top flight of competition at the Brown Invitational
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Massachusetts tennis wrapped up the 2019 Brown Invitational with action across three flights of competition on Sunday, including five match wins in the top tier by four Minutewomen. Having previously claimed the Flight A Championship as both UMass pairings advanced through Saturday's semifinals, Massachusetts again took five of six Flight A matches on Sunday.
In Flight A, Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi dispatched Brown's Lau and Kowalsky with a pair of singles wins after Britany Lau and Courtney Kowalsky took the doubles point. Kovacevic downed Lau 6-7 (2), 7-5, 10-1 while Bocchi earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kowalsky.
Jodie Lawrence-Taylor and Anna Napadiy earned a sweep over Dartmouth's Jingyi Peng and Chuyang Guan. Following a 6-4 doubles win, Lawrence-Taylor battled past Guan 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 while Napadiy downed Peng 6-3, 7-6 (1).
Shiran Arol Wiegand, Ashley Avery, Jovana Bogicevic and Jasmin Tripathy competed in Flight B for the Minutewomen against duos from Dartmouth and Stony Brook but were unable to break through during the championship round and fell, respectively, 3-0.
Sarah Mezini battled with Rhode Island's Rajan in Flight C as well, but fell 6-2, 6-3.
The Minutewomen have a break before their next competition when UMass heads to the Yale Invitational from Fri., Sept. 27 through Sun., Sept. 29.
