UMass Lands 307 Student-Athletes On A-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll

The A-10 set a league record with 3,290 student-athletes named to the honor roll.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.The Atlantic 10 Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon that 3,290 student-athletes earned the 2018-19 A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction, recognizing athletes in the conference for their excellence in the classroom for the calendar year. UMass had the second-most honorees named to the honor roll with 307 while Fordham had the most with 325 followed by Saint Joseph's with 279, Davidson with 271 and George Mason with 260 to round out the top-five.
 
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, this is the second consecutive year the Commissioner's Honor Roll has been based on the entire academic year. Previously the award was granted following each semester. To be selected to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshman and graduate students are eligible to receive the awards
 
The 307 student-athletes on the honor roll marks the most for UMass since the distinction moved to a yearly basis last year, improving by 33 honorees from 274 a year ago. The Women's Track and Field team led the conference with 50 honor roll selections while Rowing led the league with 44 honorees.

The 14 members of the A-10 also set a league-high of 235 honors per school with female student-athletes making up nearly two-thirds of the class.
 
The 2018-19 class is 63.6 percent female, while 36.4 percent were male student-athletes. The class was also made up of 28.1 percent (923 total honorees) freshmen, 24.4 percent (802 total) sophomores, 24.6 percent (808 total) juniors and 21.5 percent (706 total) seniors. There were 51 graduate students honored, comprising 1.6 percent of the class.
 
Overall, Women's Track and Field/Cross Country had 442 student-athletes honored to lead all sports while Men's Track and Field/Cross Country had 350 on the list with Women's Soccer with 319, Rowing with 261 and Baseball with 256.
