AMHERST, Mass. – Point guard Sean East III (Louisville, Ky.) and guard/forward Christian "C.J." Jackson (Atlanta, Ga.) have officially signed National Letters of Intent with the University of Massachusetts men's basketball program. The duo brings the total incoming class, ranks as the top group in the Atlantic 10, to six for the 2019-20 campaign.
Nationally, the incoming class ranks among the top-40 with East and Jackson joining Tre Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa.), T.J. Weeks (Warwick, R.I.), Preston Santos (Warwick, R.I.), and John Buggs, Jr. (Homer, La.).
East spent the past season at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, N.C., as a prep year following an outstanding high school campaign. At Combine, East (6-foot-3, 175 pounds) was a member of the national postgraduate team which played against many of the top-tier prep schools in the country. He posted a double-double of 33 points/11 assists against Hargrave Military Academy and had 21 points/five assists which was Combine's first-ever win over a ranked program. For his prep year, he averaged 20.2 points per game with 8.2 assists while connecting on 43 percent of his three-point field goal attempts.
At New Albany High School, he was an Indiana All-Star selection and led the Bulldogs to a 100-10 record over his four-year career. In 2016, he was a member of the program's Indiana state championship team. He averaged 18.2 points per game as a senior in 2017-18.
Jackson spent the 2018-19 year at Athens Prep in Athens, Tenn., where he showed versatility in scoring and setting up teammates. The 6-foot-6, 190 pound combo guard recorded 23 points, eight rebounds against Saint Louis Christian earning game MVP honors, while scoring 24 points against Hamilton Heights.
Before attending Athens Prep, Jackson averaged over 15 points and hauled in just over four rebounds per game as a senior at Greenforest High School in Decatur, Ga., in 2017-18. He had six 20-plus point games and four double-doubles on the year.
