Women’s Track And Field Takes Third At New England Championships

The Minutewomen collected five medals on day two, including the 4x100 title.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five medals on day two, including a 4x100 relay title, helped University of Massachusetts women's track and field earn a third-place team finish at the New England Championships on Saturday. The Minutewomen finished with 62 points, trailing only champion Dartmouth (107) and Rhode Island (74) in the 41-team field.
UMass defended its 2018 4x100 meter New England title as the relay squad of junior Jada Harris, junior Lindsay Witt, sophomore Abigail Collins and junior Danielle Reicherts combined for the gold medal-winning time of 47.12 seconds, which tied for second all-time in program history.
A day after breaking a 20-year-old school record in the 100 meter hurdles preliminaries, Harris improved upon her record in the final. She ran 13.41 seconds to claim silver, shaving .09 seconds off her prelim time.
Witt also collected a silver medal with her time of 24.70 in 200 dash. Senior Bridget Deveau earned bronze in 400 meter hurdles, clocking in at 1 minute, 1.16 seconds.
UMass had two more individual scorers on the track as Collins placed sixth in 100 meter dash at 12.13 seconds and freshman Grace Pettengill took seventh in 800 meter run in 2 minutes, 13.32 seconds.
Sophomore Danielle Notarfrancesco picked up bronze in shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 11.75 inches and classmate Lauren LaDere followed in fourth at 45 feet, 3 inches.
The 4x800 meter relay team of sophomore Colette O'Leary, freshman Alexina Hurley, freshman Samantha Schwers and Pettengill placed seventh with a time of 9 minutes, 29.83 seconds.
