The Pregame Shootaround
Coming off of a 2018-19 season in which the Minutewomen made monumental strides, University of Massachusetts women's basketball officially opens up its 2019-20 campaign on Tues., Nov. 5 hosting Merrimack from the Mullins Center in a 4:30 p.m. game. The matchup, which is also Merrimack's first as a Division I program in the Northeast Conference, will be televised live on NESN with Jay Burnham (play-by-play) and Frank Sullivan (color) behind the microphone.

Atlantic 10 Previews 2019-20 Season
Atlantic 10 contributing writer Vicki Friedman profiled all 14 teams in the conference as part of the A-10 Women's Basketball Tipoff series. In addition, head coach Tory Verdi, senior Hailey Leidel and sophomore Destiney Philoxy sat down with Jay Burnham to look at the upcoming slate. Both Leidel (Second Team) and Philoxy (Third Team) were named Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference.

Summer 2019 ended on a special note for the Minutewomen as the program embarked on a trip across the Atlantic Ocean to Portugal from Aug. 16-24. Funded by generous UMass fans, alumni and friends of the program and with support from administration, the squad enjoyed nine days of cultural learning, sightseeing and various culinary options with three basketball games mixed in.

Senior Hailey Leidel heads into her final campaign No. 10 on the UMass all-time career scoring list (1,353 points). Former Minutewoman Crystal Carroll (1,405 from 1993-97) is at No. 9 and Sue Peters is atop the list, draining 1,858 points during a career spanning 1976-80. Leidel already holds the top program mark for 3-point field goals made (226).

Seniors Hailey Leidel and Vashnie Perry and sophomore Jessica Nelson will lead the Minutewomen as captains in 2019-20.
