UMass Inks Two Dynamic Newcomers During Early NLI Signing Period

Javohn Garcia and Cairo McCrory will join the Minutemen beginning in 2020-21
AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass men's basketball team officially added a pair of talented newcomers for next season as Javohn Garcia (Columbus, Ohio) and Cairo McCrory (Hartford, Conn.) signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday during the start of the early signing period.
Garcia, a 6-4, 175-pound guard, will arrive in Amherst from Brewster Academy, while McCrory is a 6-5, 185-pound guard from Woodstock Academy.
"Javohn is a dynamic guard with terrific size and feel," said head coach Matt McCall. "I think we can play him at the point and off the ball, as well. Where he thrives is in pick and roll when the ball is in his hands. He can get downhill, he can score it, he has terrific feel and is a bigger guard. From a pressing standpoint, we'll add to our style of play."
"Cairo is a long, athletic, defensive minded wing who finds a way to score by getting in the lane and using his athleticism," McCall said. "He takes pride in guarding, and he can guard multiple positions, and will be terrific for our style of play."
The 2019-20 Minutemen, who are 3-0 for the first time since 2015, return to the court on Saturday afternoon when UMass hosts CCSU as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tournament, pres. By Citi. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m., and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
November 15th is National Recycling Day and the Minutemen want to support and raise awareness for the importance of recycling. Campus and community partners will be involved to help educate fans on easy ways to start recycling more. We will be giving out reusable grocery bags to the first fans through the door to cut down on single-use paper and plastic bags.
Tickets for the 2019-20 UMass men's basketball season are now on sale for all 16 regular-season home games in the Mullins Center. Tickets can be purchased now online through the UMass Athletics Ticket Central page, by calling the ticket office at 866-UMASS-TIX, or by visiting the Mullins Center Box Office. In addition to single game tickets, all ticket options are currently available for the upcoming season including season tickets, group tickets and the new Flagship Flex Pack.
The 10-game voucher pack gives fans the flexibility to redeem vouchers for any home game, allowing purchasers to use 10 vouchers for one game, one voucher for 10 games, and every combination in between.
