Harris And Cowan Headline John Thomas Terrier Classic For Women's Track & Field

Harris breaks her own 60m hurdles school record, Cowan wins 500m and takes second in 200m.

ilieBOSTON – Senior Emilie Cowan and junior Jada Harris headlined University of Massachusetts women's track and field's trip to the unscored John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday at the Boston Universtiy Track & Tennis Center. Cowan won the 500m and was the runner up in 200m, while Harris broke her own school record and finished second in 60m hurdles.
 
Cowan posted the top time in a field of 44 competitors to claim first in the 500 meter dash at 1 minute, 11.28 seconds. She took second in 200 meter dash at 24.75 seconds, a new personal record to improve upon her No. 2 all-time mark in the program's record book.
 
Harris, competing in the invitational section of 60 meter hurdles, set a new PR at 8.48 seconds for the runner-up spot in that event, surpassing her previous school record of 8.54 seconds. Sophomore Kira Kopec also competed in 60 meter hurdles and was second in the finals for her section with a time of 9.24.
 
Rounding out the top performers on the track for the Minutewomen, sophomore Bryanna Rivers ran 2 minutes, 12.16 seconds to 13th out of 120 competitors in the 800 meter run and UMass' 4x400 meter relay team of Lindsay Witt, Collete O'Leary, Cowan and Ariel Christie combined for a fifth-place time of 3 minutes, 52.55 seconds.
 
Sophomore Danielle Notarfrancesco led the way for the Minutewomen in the field events, earning third in shot put with a mark of 45 feet, 10.75 inches.
 
In pole vault, senior Kayla Rorke was sixth at 10 feet, 11.75 inches, while senior Bridget Deveau earned a sixth place showing, as well, leaping 17 feet, 11.75 inches in long jump. Sophomore Ivana Nyemeck was eighth in triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 11.25 inches.
 
Next up for the Minutewomen are the New England Championships beginning on Friday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. in Boston, Mass.
