Men’s Track & Field Competes At URI’s Sorlein Invitational

Adeyemi and Howard were the top performers for the Minutemen at the unscored meet.

KINGSTON, R.I. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field was in action at the Sorlein Invitational on Saturday at Rhode Island's Mackal Fieldhouse. Jordan Howard and Nathan Adeyemi were the top performers for the Minutemen at the unscored meet, claiming runner-up spots in their respective events. 

Howard ran 22.79 seconds to second in the 200m dash and sophomore Hunter Gray placed eighth in 23.31 seconds. Howard also logged a top-three finish in the 60 meter dash, claiming third in 7.04 seconds, while Gray was seventh (7.16)

Adeyemi placed second in triple jump with a mark of 46 feet, 2.75 inches and Samuel Darkwa, Jr. was seventh with a leap of 42 feet, 0.75 inches.

Senior Michael Famiglietti took third in both the 3,000m (8:55.09) and the mile (4:24.33). Four more Minutemen finished inside the top-eight in the mile,as well—-Dawson Bathgate (4:24.53, 4th), Kyle Guzman (4:24.59, 5th), Eric Waterman (4:24.80, 6th) and Kendall Westhof (4:25.07, 7th).

Other top-eight showings on the day included Zabih Kotecha in the 1,000 meter run (2:38.38, 7th), Evan Burton in weight throw (57'0.75", 6th), Myles McDermott in long jump (7th) and Mason Lord in pole vault (14'7.25", 21'4.25" 7th).

The Minutemen will return to the track next Saturday, Jan. 26, at Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Invitational.
