Gray Wins Heptathlon As UMass Men’s Track & Field Competes At Harvard

The junior finished with a score of 4,827 at the Harvard Multi Meet to improve to third in the program record book.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Hunter Gray won the heptathlon at the Harvard Multi Meet as the rest of the University of Massachusetts men's track and field was in action at the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard University on Saturday. The Minutemen scored in six events and finished ninth in the team standings with 21.50 points.
Gray won all three events on day two of the heptathlon to post a score of 4,827 points, which improved his ranking to third all-time in the UMass record book. He ran 8.71 seconds for the top time in 60 meter hurdles for 811 points, cleared 12 feet, 5.5 inches in pole vault for 562 points and was first to cross the finish in the 1,000 meter run at 3 minutes, 0.97 seconds for 655 points.
On the track, senior Jake DeGrace claimed third in 60 meter hurdles at 8.18 seconds after qualifying out of the prelims with a fourth-place time of 8.22 seconds.
Junior Michael Cuthbert placed fourth in 200 meter dash at 22.12 seconds, classmate Eric Waterman was sixth in the 3,000 meter run, crossing the finish in 8 minutes, 41.59 seconds and Zachary Frahlich came in eighth in the 1,000 meter run, clocking in at 2 minutes, 30.41 seconds.
Senior Evan Burton collected fourth in shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 3 inches and sophomore Noah Kortkamp placed seventh in long jump at 22 feet, 3 inches.
The Minutemen will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 19, when the squad will head to Kingston, Rhode Island for the Sorlein Invitational at URI.
