Men’s Soccer Announces 11 Additions To The Roster For 2018

The Atlantic 10 Champions welcome in five transfers and six freshmen to a team that went 15-4-3 a season ago.

AMHERST, Mass.Head Coach Fran O'Leary and the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team has announced the addition of 11 players to the roster for the 2018 season. The Minutemen welcome in five transfers and six freshmen to a team that claimed both the Atlantic 10 regular season and tournament titles a year ago on their way to earning their first NCAA Tournament bid since the 2008 season.
 
"I would like to welcome all of the new lads to UMass," said O'Leary. "We are excited to have them onboard and look forward to them contributing to our program. We have graduated a mature group who worked hard to get better every day. An exciting challenge awaits this group as we look to continue the forward momentum of the UMass soccer program."
 
Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) will join the Minutemen after spending his freshman season at Louisville. The Monson High School product was the 10th-ranked player in the Northeast Region and helped lead the Mustangs to the Western Massachusetts semifinals with 14 shutouts in 2013. Miller played his club ball for the New England Revolution Academy for five seasons from 2012-17, playing over 75 games for the club. The goalkeeper earned a pair of invites to the USA Soccer U18 and U16 National Team camps and was selected to the MLS Eastern All-Star Team at the Generation Adidas Elite Soccer Program and named to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Eastern Conference starting XI.
 
DeAndre Brown (Springfield, Mass.) comes to UMass as a transfer after spending the last three seasons at UConn. With the Huskies, Brown appeared in 43 matches and scored the game-tying goal against Boston University in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. In high school at Central, the all-state selection set a new record for most goals in a single season while helping guide his squad to a league championship. A team captain for the soccer team during his senior season, Brown also excelled in track and field where he holds the high school record in the 55-meter dash.
 
Alec-Michael Petrizzi (Wellington, Fla.) joins the squad as a transfer after completing his freshman season at Louisville. Petrizzi played prep soccer at Oxbridge Academy and was named the Class 1-3A Player of the Year in 2014-15 while earning all-state honors in Florida. The 2014-15 TopDrawerSoccer Florida All-Star team pick played club soccer with Team Boca from 2012-17 and with the Wellington Wave from 2006-11.
 
Maryvn Dorchin (Belmont, Mass.) joins the Minuteman squad after transferring in from Springfield College, where he made four appearances in goal while playing nearly 170 minutes in net while saving all six shots he faced. In high school at Belmont, Dorchin was a two-year letterwinner that was awarded the Belmont Sportsmanship Award during his senior season. Dorchin moved to the United States at the age of 14 after playing club ball in France with E.S Cros de Cagnes for five years, competing against numerous Ligue 1 clubs and earning the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament award five different times from 2009-11.
 
Yosuke Hanya (Tokyo, Japan) marks the final transfer addition for the 2018 season after playing at Tokyo Gakugei University in 2017. Hanya was a member of the Japan U-19 National Team in 2018, competing with the team in the Spain Tour in January. The forward played in a pair of games in 2016 for FC Tokyo U-23 as a striker after competing for the U-18 squad from 2014-16, where he earned himself an appearance in the Japan U-16 National Team in 2014. As a member of the FC Toyko U-15 team from 2011-13, Hanya helping his team to a Prince Takamado Trophy and a seventh-place finish at the Adidas Cup Championship.
 
Graham Brenner (Londonderry, N.H.) joins the Minutemen as a center back after being named the Most Valuable Player at Worcester Academy, starting all 42 games while scoring seven goals with six assists as a junior before adding eight goals and seven assists as a senior. Brenner played three seasons of varsity soccer at Trinity High School, scoring 15 goals with four assists in 48 starts. The NSCAA All-Massachusetts selection was also tabbed to the Boston Globe and NEPSAC Class A All-Star teams. Brenner played his club ball for FC Stars, winning state championships in 2014, 2015 and 2017 in addition to helping his squad to state and regional titles and an appearance in the national finals group stage in 2017.
 
Nate Cardoza (South Easton, Mass.) was a four-year letterwinner at Oliver Ames High School, leading the Tigers to three Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division II state title games with a state championship title during his freshman campaign. The United Soccer Coaches All-America selection earned multiple honors during his high school career, including being named the Hockomock League Most Valuable Player in 2017 to go along with all-state and all-New England selections. Cardoza was also named to the All-Scholastic teams by the Boston Globe, Boston Herald and Enterprise News.
 
Robert Leamey (St. James, N.Y.) was a three-year starter in goal at Saint Anthony's High School, helping the Skippers to 70 wins during four seasons. The two-time team Most Valuable Player was named a team captain as a senior as he went on to earn first-team all-conference and all-Long Island honors. A Newsday Preseason Player to Watch, Leamey played club ball with the Long Island Rough Riders in the Premier Development League, qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup. Leamey holds NSCAA Level 1 and 2 Goalkeeping Diplomas.
 
James McPherson (Danvers, Mass.) comes to UMass after being named a four-time Northeastern Conference All-Star at Danvers High School. The NEC Most Valuable Player was a three-time all-state selection and a three-time Eastern Massachusetts All-Star. McPherson was also recognized as an all-scholastic player twice and played his club ball with Aztec Soccer. In club play, McPherson helped Aztec secure a NPL Championship in 2018 while making it to the Massachusetts State Cup semifinals while reaching the state finals in 2016.
 
Cam Pattison (Cohasset, Mass.) was a four-year starter and two-time team captain at Cohasset High School, helping lead the Skippers to 70 wins over four seasons. The South Shore Conference Player of the Year was named all-state and all-Eastern Massachusetts, recording 30 points during his senior campaign on 11 goals and 19 assists. Pattison was also named a Boston Globe and Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic pick and spent his last three seasons with the No. 1-ranked club team in Massachusetts, team GPS 2000 of the National Premier League.
 
Gabriel Workman (Austin, Texas) played prep soccer for McNeil High School in Texas, scoring 25 goals in 23 games during his senior season on his way to being named to the TASCO All-Region team. In addition to helping guide the Mavericks to a pair of district titles in 2018 and 2016, Workman was tabbed Academic All-Texas and earned the Golden Boot Award in his final prep campaign. Workman joined Lonestar SC in 2007, earning a spot as a left midfielder and left back on the under 14/15 squad.
