Recap In A Minute: 2018 Atlantic 10 Championships
UMass battled but fell just short of back-to-back Atlantic 10 Championships on Sat., May 5, finishing second at Cooper River in New Jersey. Rhode Island (51) finished five points ahead of the Minutewomen (46) in the team standings to secure to league title.
Â
Four Minutewomen were earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference status as Aiste Balciunaite and Zoe Hill took home First Team honors while Grace Bundy and Meghan Ouellette were placed on the Second Team.
Â
Heading into the Varsity 8 Grand Final third in the team standings, UMass found itself in need of a top finish to retain a shot at the league title. URI would ultimately come away with the championship by way of a first place time (6:37.50) ahead of the Minutewomen who crossed the line second (6:40.23).
Â
Last Time At Dad Vail
The Minutewomen finished their two-day slate of competition at the 2017 Dad Vail Regatta with championship round races in spite of treacherous conditions that included driving rain and sustained winds. In grand final action, the Maroon and White took second in the Varsity Heavyweight 8+ and Pair (2-) and third in the Junior Varsity Heavyweight 8+. After inclement weather restructured the race schedule and moved the semifinal races to Friday, it ended Saturday's slate early with a cutoff time of 10:35 a.m. that canceled more than three dozen events.
