Day One Of Holy Cross Multi-Event Meet In The Books For UMass

Collins leads decathlon standings, Kopec third in heptathlon.

WORCESTER, Mass. – University of Massachusetts' track and field multi-eventers opened up the Holy Cross Multi-Event Meet on Wednesday. Junior Jonathan Collins leads the decathlon for the men with 3,504 points through five events, while freshman Kira Kopec sits third for the women with 2,756 points through four events in heptathlon.
 
Collins opened up the day's action by winning 100 meter dash in 11.22 seconds for 812 points and was runner up in decathlon at 51.81 seconds for 733 points. His toss of 41 feet, 0.5 inches landed him second in shot put (637 points), while he was fourth in high jump at 6 feet, 0.75 inches (670 points) and fourth in long jump, leaping 20 feet, 8 inches (652 points).
 
Kopec was victorious in shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 4 inches for 620 points. She collected 806 points in 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.27 seconds, good for third. In 200 meter dash, Kopec crossed the finish in 26.51 seconds to claim fourth and earn 753 points. She cleared 4 feet, 9.5 inches for seventh in high jump (577 points).
 
Freshman Emma Jones is currently fifth in the field of 11 competitors with 2,623 points with her best showing of the day coming in shot put, claiming third at 35 feet, 10.5 inches (591 points). Freshman Michael Long is 11th in decathlon with 2,701 points.
 
Day two of the Holy Cross Multi-Event meet begins tomorrow, April 19, at 11 a.m.
