Napadiy wins at No. 6 singles
RICHMOND, Va. - University of Massachusetts tennis suffered a 6-1 setback at the University of Richmond on Saturday. Anna Napadiy claimed a win at No. 6 singles for the Minutewomen, but Massachusetts was unable to clinch tide-shifting contests elsewhere in doubles and singles.
UMass falls to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic 10 with the loss. Richmond improves to 6-10 overall and 3-1 in the A-10 with the win.
In doubles action, Massachusetts claimed the No. 1 match but was unable to take the point as the Spiders bested the Minutewomen at No. 2 and No. 3. Ana Yrazusta and Laura Moreno downed Dunbard and Marshall, 7-5 for the No. 1 doubles victory.
Despite dropping the doubles point, the Maroon and White had opportunities to rally in singles.
Yrazusta battled back and forth in the second set against Kiana Marshall before she fell shy of forcing a third set in a 6-2, 7-6 (5) loss. Janja Kovacevic forced a tie-breaking third set at No. 3 singles, but ultimately fell to Dessi Zlateva 6-2, 1-6, 10-6.
Ruth Crawford (No. 1), Jovana Bogicevic (No. 4) and Martina Bocchi (No. 6) all stepped to the singles courts for the Minutewomen as well.
The Minutewomen conclude their 11-match road trip at Saint Joseph's on Sun., April 15 at 10 a.m.
