Tennis Falters In Close Loss To LIU Brooklyn

Minutewomen win at No. 2, 3 & 6 singles, but fall, 4-3
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis fell at home at the Bay Road Tennis Club to visiting-LIU Brookyln, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Ana Yrazusta, Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi won their respective singles matches at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6.
Kovacevic teamed with Ruth Crawford for a win at No. 2 doubles, 6-4; however, the No. 1 pairing of Laura Moreno and Yrazusta, and the No. 3 doubles set of Anna Napadiy and Ashley Avery faltered in their action as LIU Brooklyn stole the doubles point.
LIU Brooklyn added wins at No. 4 and No. 1 singles in succession as Malin Leysen downed Moreno 6-4, 6-2 and Anna Grigoryan bested Crawford 6-4, 6-4.
Down by three, Massachusetts cut the deficit to one with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles via Yrazusta and Kovacevic's strong showings. Yrazusta took on Sasha Bollweg at No. 2 and bested the Australia native, 6-4, 6-4. Kovacevic followed shortly thereafter with a comeback victory at No. 3 as the sophomore dropped the first set before the decidedly took the second and third from Jessica Brzozowska for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
The Minutewomen needed wins in No. 5 and No. 6 singles to complete the improbably comeback, but came up just shy. Napadiy battled through a challenging match at No. 5 singles, but ultimately fell to Jennifer Gogova, 7-5, 6-4. Bocchi ended the day on a bright note at No. 6 singles with her 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 comeback over Clemence Krug.
