Shiran Arol Wiegand Joins UMass Tennis Family

Israeli native signs National Letter of Intent for the University of Massachusetts
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts tennis and head coach Juancarlos Nunez announced the signing of Shiran Arol Wiegand to a National Letter of Intent on Mon., Nov. 19. An accomplished competitor in her native Israel as well as internationally, Arol Wiegand joins the program following two years of military service in her home country.

Name: Shiran Arol Wiegand
Hometown: Kiryat Ono, Israel
Notes & Information: Ranked as high as 618 in the ITF Juniors highlighted by reaching the Singles Final of the ITF G4 in Bat Yam, Israel … Reached No. 2 in the Israeli Junior rankings and No. 8 in the Israeli Women's rankings … Got through the qualifying round of three ITF Pro Circuit Events during the Fall, 2018, making it to the round of 16 in singles in two of them … In doubles, she reached the main draw semifinals of two ITF Pro Circuit Events as well … Earned her way into the doubles final of the Israeli Women's Championship in 2016 … Career WTA Singles ranking of 1,105 and doubles ranking of 1,131 … Represented Israel in the Maccabiah World Games, winning the silver in mixed doubles in 2017 … Is currently serving in the Israeli Army before she starts at UMass in the Fall, 2019.
