Bocchi Advances To ITA Regional Main Draw With Back-To-Back Wins

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - University of Massachusetts tennis junior Martina Bocchi bested competitors from the Cornell and Rutgers programs on Thurs., Oct. 11, and advanced through to the ITA Northeast Regional Main Draw on Friday with the back-to-back victories. Bocchi downed Jaci Cochrane of Rutgers in her opening match 6-3, 6-3 and outperformed Cornell's Ana Elhom for a 7-5, 6-4 victory and the right to continue competing at the regionals.

Bocchi was one of two Minutewomen in competition during the inaugural day of the 2018 ITA Northeast Regional. Sophomore Anna Napadiy also qualified for action at the event but fell 7-6, 6-4 to Pennsylvania's OJ Singh in her opening match.

Competition at the ITA Northeast Regional continues with singles and doubles play on Fri., Oct. 13 as all four Minutewomen are in action.

The doubles slate begins at 9 a.m. Bocchi and Napadiy will play as a pair while Janja Kovacevic and Jodie Lawrence-Taylor will do the same. Bocchi joins Kovacevic and Lawrence-Taylor in the main draw of singles thanks to her back-to-back wins on Thursday. The main draw will begin Friday following doubles.
