Recap in a Minute
UMass is coming off of a split weekend in Richmond, Virginia, taking a 2-0 decision from the University of Richmond on Fri., Oct. 5 before VCU reversed that score on Sun., Oct. 7. Sophomore Georgie McTear and junior Antonet Louw anchored the offense in the win over the Spiders with a goal apiece, while freshman goalkeeper Johanna von dem Borne posted her first career solo shutout and finished the weekend with nine saves and just one goal allowed.

Immediate Impacts
The Minutewomen have received contributions from a number of new faces in 2018, in part highlighted by the international duo of junior Antonet Louw (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and graduate student Clodagh Moloney (Limerick, Ireland). Louw has found the cage at an impressive rate with a team-high 14 goals, while Moloney has seen significant minutes anchoring the backline and on both the attacking and defensive penalty corner units. She has also chipped in three assists.

In addition to that duo of newcomers, all six of UMass' true freshmen have earned playing time.

Saving the Day
Freshman goalkeeper Johanna von dem Borne has seen the majority of minutes throughout her first campaign in Amherst, averaging 6.50 stops per game. That figure enters the weekend ranked second in the Atlantic 10 and 14th nationally.

Von dem Borne has turned in four outings of 10-plus saves, most recently an 11-save day at No. 16 Saint Joseph's on the rainy afternoon of Sun., Sept. 23. The native of Essen, Germany has been backed up in the cage by redshirt freshman Megan Davies.

This Week in UMass History
Nine different Minutewomen inked the box score with a goal as Massachusetts opened Atlantic 10 play with an 11-0 win at Saint Louis on Oct. 12, 2013. The 11 total goals tied what was then a program-record and came partly as a result of a whopping 22-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Renee Suter and Lauren Allymohamed each netted two tallies while Alexa Sikalis contributed four assists. Goalkeeper Sam Carlino needed just one save in the cage for the shutout.

Next Up
Ahead of an off day next Sunday (Oct. 21), Massachusetts treks across the state to Dedham for a Fri., Oct. 19 matchup at Northeastern. Game time under the lights is set for 6 p.m.
