Tennis Drops Spring Opener At Boston College

Minutewomen prepare for short turnaround, face Bryant at home on Sun., Jan. 28 at 12:30 p.m.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis opened its spring campaign at Boston College on Sat., Jan. 27 and fell to the Eagles, 6-1. The Maroon and White will return to the courts on Sunday for their home opener, a 12:30 p.m. match at the Bay Road Tennis Club against Bryant.
Massachusetts nearly thwarted Boston College's top two doubles pairings, but narrowly dropped each match by identical 7-6 scores. Ana Yrazusta and Laura Moreno challenged Kylie Wilcox and Dasha Possokhova while Ruth Crawford and Janja Kovacevic battled Jackie Urbinati and Elene Tsokilauri. The Ealges claimed the third scoring doubles match too as Irani and Posorske worked past Anna Napadiy and Ashley Avery, 6-2.
The Minutewomen claimed one doubles victory at No. 4 as Martina Bocchi and Jovana Bogicevic teamed for a 6-2 triumph over Maria Ross and Micayla Casella.
Napadiy provided a singles victory for the Minutewomen as she bested Ross 6-3, 6-3. However, the Minutewomen were unable to claim additional match wins over the Eagles as Yrazusta (No. 1), Crawford (No. 2), Kovacevic (No. 3), Moreno (No. 4) and Bocchi (No. 6) fell to their Eagles counterparts.
