Deveau Wins Harvard Multi Meet In Record-Setting Fashion

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field redshirt junior Bridget Deveau took first at the Harvard Multi Meet in record-setting fashion on Friday afternoon, winning the event with a score of 3,820 points. The mark, which was a PR for Deveau, broke the previous UMass record of 3,658 set by Andrea Comeau in 1999.

Deveau began the day's action by racing to first in 60m hurdles with a time of 9.17 seconds for 875 points, improving on her No. 5 all-time mark in the program record book.

She also won shot put with a toss of 40-feet, 11.75 inches for 694 points, just ahead of teammate Kira Kopec in second with a 37-foot, 0.25-inch throw for 614 points.

Deveau took the top spot in long jump at 17 feet, 9.75 inches for 680 points and capped off the day's action by landing first in the 800m at 2:15.75.

Kopec claimed third at the meet with a score of 3,368 to rank fifth all-time in UMass history. In addition to being the runner-up to Deveau in shot put, Kopec was second in the 800m at 2 minutes, 25.09 seconds for 756 points and claimed third in 60m hurdles at 9.21 seconds for 867 points.

Two more Minutewomen finished in the top-eight as senior Julia Witt was fifth with 3,200 points and freshman Emma Jones was sixth with a score of 3,112.

The rest of the UMass squad will be in action tomorrow, Jan. 13, at the Beantown Challenge, also hosted by Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts, beginning at 11 a.m.
