Women’s Track Trio to Compete at Canada Games

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field redshirt junior Bridget Deveau and incoming freshmen Kira Kopec and Ivana Nyemeck will be competing in the 2017 Canada Summer games this week in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games are Canada's largest multi-sport competition for young athletes. The games feature top amateur competitors from the 13 provinces and territories in Canada competing for the Canada Games Flag and Centennial Cup.
Deveau and Kopec will be in action in heptathlon, which will be held on Thursday, August 3, and Friday, August 4. Deveau, a native of Fall River, Nova Scotia, was a silver medalist in the event at the 2015 and 2016 Atlantic 10 Championships and earned bronze at the 2015 ECAC Championships. She broke her own UMass record in the event with a score of 5,048 at A-10's in 2016. Kopec is from Brooks, Alberta and holds a PR of 4,803 points. She was a national champion in heptathlon in 2016, as well.
Nyemeck, who hails from Quebec City, Quebec, will compete in qualifying for triple jump on Tuesday, August 1. The triple jump final is slated for Thursday, August 3. Her personal best in the event entering UMass is 39 feet, 4 inches.
