FREEPORT, N.Y. - University of Massachusetts football graduate student Adam Breneman was one of 55 tight ends from across NCAA Division I FBS programs selected to the 2017 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by the Friends of John Mackey on Tuesday. Breneman, a semifinalist for the award in 2016, tallied team-highs of 70 receptions, 808 receiving yards and eight touchdowns last season.

The John Mackey Award is awarded to the best collegiate tight end in the nation, as voted upon by the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2017 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on Dec. 6 and then presented live on Dec. 7 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

Breneman, a graduate student transfer from Penn State, made an immediate impact in his first season with the Minutemen and emerged as one of the top blocking and receiving tight ends in the country. He had at least six receptions in seven contests and also went for 75 or more receiving yards in as many contests. Breneman hauled in at least one touchdown pass against the Boston College, FIU, Hawai'i, South Carolina, Troy and Wagner defenses.
