Rowing Trio Named to Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Massachusetts rowing collected three spots on the 2017 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Thursday. Aiste Balciunaite, Natalie Boisvert and Abby Norwood represent the Minutewomen on the annual 10-person award list, the most recipients among all A-10 teams and one of only two schools with multiple honorees.

Balciunaite was a junior and member of the Varsity 8+ boat in 2017. She helped the V8+ crew to a first place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships, which guaranteed the Minutewomen the team tie-breaker and helped the squad reach the NCAA Championships for the third time in the last four years. Balciunaite is a biochemistry major from Rosemont, Pennsylvania.

Boisvert, also a member of the Varsity 8+ boat alongside Balciunaite, rowed with the crew at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Boisvert and Balciunaite followed the A-10 Championships gold medal with a silver at the 2017 Dad Vail Regatta. Boisvert graduated UMass with a degree in animal sciences after she won Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.

Norwood rowed in the Second Varsity 8+ boat for the Atlantic 10 Championships and helped the crew take home silver. She also partook in the Seven Sisters Sculling Regatta and won silver while she took home bronze with the Collegiate 8+ at the Head of the Fish. She graduated UMass with a degree in history.
