MacLean Advances to NCAA Quarterfinals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Two members of the University of Massachusetts women's track and field program were in action at the NCAA Preliminary Championships on Thursday evening at the University of Kentucky. Redshirt junior Heather MacLean advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals in 1,500 meter run and Emilie Cowan capped her sophomore season running in the 400 meter dash first round.
 
MacLean ran 4 minutes, 22.95 seconds to fourth place in her heat, which automatically qualified her for the quarterfinals. Her time was 15th overall in the field of 48 competitors. Saturday's quarterfinals in 1,500m are set for 6:30 p.m. as 12 individuals will advance to the NCAA Championships, top-five from each quarterfinal plus the next best two times.
 
Cowan posted a time of 54.78 and took seventh in her heat and 40th overall in the 400m.
