Tennis Picks Up 5-2 Senior Day Win Over Fordham

AMHERST, Mass. - In the final home match for both head coach Judy Dixon and the 2017 senior class, the UMass tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Fordham on Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts. With the win in the regular-season finale, the Minutewomen improve to 9-7 overall and 4-0 this year in Atlantic 10 play heading into next week's championship tournament held in Orlando, Fla.

Prior to the match, the UMass tennis program honored its trio of seniors in Brittany Collens, Julia Larson and Anna Woosley.

UMass picked up the doubles point over Fordham (18-3, 3-1 A-10) winning all three matches. Ruth Crawford and Woosley won 6-2 at No. 1 play followed by Ana Yrazusta and Janja Kovacevic (6-1) at No. 2 doubles. Laura Moreno and Brittany Collens improved to 5-1 on the year with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.

In singles play, Crawford and Yrazusta picked up straight set wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches, respectively. Moreno and Collens each dropped the first sets of their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles before rallying to win the second and third sets.

Kovacevic fell in three sets after winning the first but then falling in the next two. Woosely also fell at No. 4 singles in three sets after losing the first set before winning the second set 7-5. Fordham's Mayu Sato won the third set with a 6-2 decision.

The Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament field will be announced early this week with opening play beginning on Wednesday.
