Tennis Holds Serve in 4-3 Win Over Samford

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Brittany Collens' win at No. 6 singles proved the difference-maker as the UMass tennis team held off Samford 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at the College of Charleston Tennis Center. The win evened the Minutewomen's record to 6-6 on the season as they will wrap up their three-match spring break trip in Charleston on Friday against Atlantic 10 foe Davidson (11 a.m.).

UMass opened Thursday's match with a quick 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point to start the contest. Ana Yrazusta and Janja Kovacevick took the No. 2 match (6-3), while Collens and Laura Moreno also won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Yrazusta (6-2, 7-6) and Anna Woosley (6-2, 6-2) each won their singles matches, while Samford (8-6) picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles to tie the match 3-3.

After winning her first set in a tie-breaker, 7-6, Collens sealed the match-deciding win at No. 6 singles with a 6-3 second-set victory.
