Minutewomen rally back from down three, but unable to secure match-winning point.

CHARLESTON, S.C. - After the College of Charleston scored the opening three points on Tuesday, the UMass tennis team rallied back to tie the match late before falling in a hard-fought No. 5 singles contest as the Cougars took a 4-3 win over the Minutewomen.

Charleston earned the opening doubles point of the day by winning two of three matches. The two teams split No. 1 and No. 2 doubles with UMass' Ruth Crawford and Anna Woosley picking up a 6-2 win. The No. 3 set saw Ashley Avery and Brittany Collens fall 7-6 as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead to start.

In singles, Charleston then won No. 6 and No. 4 singles to take a 3-0 lead. Janja Kovacevic then won in straight sets at No. 1 singles to get UMass on the board.

Ana Yrazusta picked up a win at No. 3 singles, while Crawford won at No. 2 singles highlighted by a 7-6 come-from-behind win in the second set to tie the match 3-3.

The deciding match saw Laura Moreno and Charleston's Anastasia Palaska split their opening two sets at No. 5 singles. Moreno took an early lead in the third set, but Palaska was able to comeback for a 7-5 win.

UMass' spring break trip in Charleston will continue this week with the Minutewomen returning to action on Thursday, March 16 against Samford before then facing Atlantic 10 foe Davidson on Friday.
