Midweek Tilt As Men's Hoops Heads To Quinnipiac

Minutemen and Bobcats set for 7 PM tip.
AMHERST, Mass. - The road swing contines this week for the UMass men's basketball team as the Minutemen first head to Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Nov. 29 before then heading to South Carolina on Saturday to face the Gamecocks. Tip-off for Wednesday night is set for 7 PM and this will be the first meeting with the Bobcats since 2011-12.
Wednesday's game will be streamed live on www.ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN app for mobile devices and streaming television players/services.
Locally, fans will also be able to listen to the game on 105.5 FM WEEI and 830 AM WCRN with Voice of the Minutemen Josh Maurer and Adam Frenier bringing the action to the radio network. The audio stream is available through both www.UMassAthletics.com and the Tune-In app for mobile devices.
The Minutemen (3-3) are coming off a pair of tough losses over the Thanksgiving weekend after falling to No. 14 Minnesota and BYU in the Barclays Center Classic. The BYU match-up saw the Cougars use a late come-from-behind run to pick up the last-second win over the Minutemen.
Guard Luwane Pipkins continues to lead UMass with 19.3 points per game along with just under four assists per outing. After a 16-point effort against BYU, bigman Rashaan Holloway is back over double-figure scoring with 10.2 points per game to go with 5.2 rebounds. Chris Baldwin was strong off the bench in the two Barclays games where he averaged 8.0 points and 9.0 rebounds.
Among A-10 players, Pipkins ranks sixth overall in scoring average, ninth in assists, fourth in three-pointers made, seventh in steals per game (2.17) and second in total points (85). After handing out seven assists in the BYU game, C.J. Anderson has moved up to fifth in the league averaging 4.7 helpers a night. Anderson's 28 assists on the year rank as the second-most for any player so far this season.
As a team, UMass has shown positive development through six games under Matt McCall. The Minutemen rank second in the A-10 in field goal defense and are third in three-point field goal defense. UMass continues to hold a positive rebounding margin over its opponents rankin third in the league at +2.5 boards per game. Despite learning the new offensive system, UMass ranks sixth in scoring offense averaging 74 points a night. The Minutemen have also been efficient at the charity stripe converting 77.4 percent of their attempts which ranks second-best in the league.
Since an opening night win over Dartmouth, Quinnipiac (1-5) has lost five straight including Sunday's 78-72 decision at home against Maine. Three Bobcats average double-figures led by 16 points from Chaise Daniels and 14.7 points (6.3 rebounds) from Cameron Young. Rich Kelly rounds out the double-figure scorers with 10.3 points a night, while also leading the team in assists at 5.8 per game. Head coach Baker Dunleavy is in his first season at Quinnipiac. He is the son of Mike Dunleavy, Sr., who is currently the head coach at Tulane and is the younger brother of Mike Dunleavy, Jr., who recently completed his 15th NBA season following a brief stint with the Atlanta Hawks.
