MacLean Collects Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Honors

The redshirt senior earned the accolade for the fifth time in her career.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's cross country redshirt senior Heather MacLean has been selected to the Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Tuesday. It marks the fifth academic all-conference recognition of MacLean's career, as she was previously honored for cross country in 2015 and 2016, for indoor track and field in 2016 and outdoor track and field in 2017.

To be nominated for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have a grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for their entire academic career. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's sports information directors.

MacLean graduated this past spring with her bachelor's degree in psychology with a 3.704 GPA and was among 10 seniors honored as 21st Century Leaders at UMass' undergraduate commencement. The Peabody, Massachusetts, native is currently working towards her master's degree in education.

Last Friday MacLean became the fifth NCAA qualifier in program history by virtue of her fifth-place finish at the Northeast Regional Championships and will race in the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky this coming Saturday.

MacLean won her second straight Atlantic 10 individual cross country title this fall and captured the individual title at the 2017 New England Championships. For her performance at the New England meet, she was tabbed the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week for women's Division I cross country.

In her other two races this fall, MacLean opened the season with a victory at the Minuteman Invitational and took seventh at the prestigious Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
