Minutemen Welcome Nine January Enrollees

AMHERST, Mass. – With the start of the spring semester on Monday, University of Massachusetts football head coach Mark Whipple welcomed nine new players to the program, including six true freshmen.
UMass added skill players in early enrollee linebacker Mike Ruane (Middletown, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional HS), freshman wide receiver Patrick Volcy (Naples, Fla./Golden Gate HS) and redshirt sophomore transfer linebacker Jake Froehlich (Wolfeboro, N.H./Tilton School/Oregon).
As previously announced, quarterback Michael Curtis, a native of Richardson, Texas and a graduate of Prime Prep Academy, spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. He enters the 2017 season with the Minutemen as a redshirt sophomore with three years to play three seasons.
Freshmen Spencer Goldberg (Plainview, N.Y./POBJFK HS/Milford Academy), Jaylen Larry (Pasadena, Calif./Oaks Christian HS/Milford Academy) and David Weinstock (Hamburg, Germany/IMG Academy) join assistant coach Mike Foley's offensive line.
Defensive linemen redshirt junior DaVone Hall Brooklyn, N.Y./ Sheepshead Bay HS/Orange Coast College/Butler CC) and true freshman Alex Piechocki (Attica, N.Y./Attica HS) add depth to the front seven.
UMass football will host a live show on ESPN3 to celebrate #MassImpact17 (National Signing Day) on Wed., Feb. 1. The show will air 12-1:30 p.m. Alumni, fans and supporters are invited to watch via ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app to hear Whipple, the coaching staff and members of the athletics department discuss the newest class of Minutemen and the latest news from UMass Athletics. As a part of the program, hosted by Andy Gresh and Hali Oughton, each member of the 2017 signing class will be introduced with highlights and comments from the coaching staff.
