Women’s Swimming and Diving Tops Rhode Island 176-119

For second straight meet, Minutewomen victorious in 12 events.
AMHERST, Mass. – Thanks to taking first place in 12 events, the UMass women's swimming and diving team defeated Rhode Island 176-119 on Tuesday afternoon at the Joseph R. Rogers Pool. The meet was the home finale for the Minutewomen who were coming off a win last Saturday over Bryant.
Ansley Baker, Maja Boric, and Olga Egkorova each posted a pair of first place finishes on the day. Baker won the 50 free and the 100 breast; Boric won the one-meter and three-meter dives; and Egkorova won the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
Other first-place finishes for UMass included Meriza Werenski in the 400 IM, Hayley Masi in the 100 free, and Rachel Grant in the 100 fly.
Overall, the Minutewomen took the top-three scoring spots in the 400 IM, the one-meter dive, and the 3-meter dive.
UMass jumped out to a 94-37 lead after the first seven events of the day. Heading into the three-meter dive and the final two swim events of the day, the Minutewomen expanded their lead to 160-85.
Next for UMass will be a trip to the Dartmouth Invitational hosted at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt., this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21.
