Doubled Up On The Double-Doubles
After 44 career games without one, Rashaan Holloway recorded his first collegiate double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds at George Mason on Wed., Jan. 4. He immediately followed with a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double at VCU on Sat., Jan. 7. Holloway's second double-double marked career highs in points, rebounds and blocks (4).

Combined, Holloway averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks during the two-game week in only 26.5 minutes played per game. He shot 16-of-25 overall (64.0 percent) and was 7-for-7 at the foul line. He split his boards between 10 on the offensive end and 11 on the defensive side.

He is the first UMass forward with a double-double since Antwan Space had 17 points and 17 rebounds in a 108-99 overtime win at Duquesne on Feb. 14, 2016.

The Rookies Get The Call
Three rookies started for the Minutemen in their game at George Mason: DeJon Jarreau (G), Luwane Pipkins (G) and Brison Gresham (F). It marks the first game UMass started three freshmen since the end of the 2009-10 season. Head coach Derek Kellogg last tabbed three freshmen as starters against Richmond in the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinal Round (Javorn Farrell, Freddie Riley and Terrell Vinson).

Pipkins has started all 16 games while Jarreau enters the Dayton contest with 13 starts in his 14 appearances. Gresham got the nod for the first time at George Mason after nine appearances off the bench.

Donte Gets To 1K
In need of 18 points to reach 1,000 for his career at the University of Massachusetts, Donte Clark poured in 27 against Rider and became the 50th member of the UMass Men's Basketball 1,000-Point Club. Clark reached 1,000 in his 76th career game (13.2 points per game career average) and became the first junior class member to eclipse quadruple digits since Chaz Williams did so in 2012-13.

Clark currently ranks 39th all-time in UMass history for points scored with 1,057 entering play against Dayton.

Wide Open Spaces
UMass men's basketball outscored foes on the fastbreak, 191-107 through the opening 16 games of the year. After the squad only reached double-figures in fastbreak points during four of the opening nine games, Massachusetts has at least 10 fastbreak points in each of the most recent seven games played. In that span the Minutemen average 16.4 fastbreak points to 7.0 for their foes.

Just Point To The Hoop And Say, Go Holloway Up
Rashaan Holloway ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with his 63.3 field goal percentage (69-of-109) through games on Sun. Jan. 8. Holloway does not have enough makes per game (5.0) to qualify for the NCAA rankings. His percentage would place him 12 overall in the nation with the prerequisite number of made baskets per game played. Holloway is shooting 66.7 percent in his last six games (38-57; 6.3-9.5). He only has two games with less than a .500 field goal percentage on the entire season.

Luwane Strip-kins, Fast-Handed Minuteman
Freshman guard Luwane Pipkins has the ninth-most steals per game (2.69) across NCAA Division I men's basketball and also ranks eighth in total steals (43) through games on Sun., Dec. 8. He is one of only two players in NCAA Division I with two games of seven or more steals this season (8 vs. UMass Lowell; 7 vs. UCF).

His eight against UMass Lowell also rank tied for the fifth-most in a single game in NCAA Division I this season and are tied for the most in the history of the UMass men's basketball program.

Led by Pipkins' 43, UMass owns the 13th-most steals per game (8.9) in the nation as of contests on Sun., Jan. 8.

20-Pointers A Team-Wide Routine
Six members of the program have at least one outing with 20 or more points through the opening 12 games played. Those six Minutemen include Donte Clark (29 vs. Harvard; 22 vs. North Carolina A&T, 27 vs. Rider), Tyrn Flowers (20 vs. UCF), Rashaan Holloway (21 vs. UMass Lowell; 21 at Providence; 22 vs. VCU), DeJon Jarreau (25 at Ole Miss), Zach Lewis (20 at Ole Miss) and Luwane Pipkins (20 at Providence, 27 vs. Kennesaw State).

Massachusetts is one of only two teams in the country with six or more players who recorded at least one 20-point game in 2016-17, joined by Memphis.

Anderson Named A NABC Good Works Team Nominee
C.J. Anderson was selected as a nominee for the 2017 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Good Works Team, as announced by the NABC on Wed., Nov. 30. Anderson is one of 181 men's basketball student-athletes from the NCAA Divisions I, II, II and NAIA levels chosen as a nominee.

The Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams recognize players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruistic acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes participating in the sport. From leading an initiative to help end the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, to co-founding a non-profit with the mission to improve literacy rates across the country, the players nominated embody the true spirit of teamwork and giving back.
