UMass Drops 2-1 Overtime Decision At New Hampshire

Miller scores first goal of season in field hockey’s loss
DURHAM, New Hampshire – University of Massachusetts field hockey battled back and forth with the University of New Hampshire before the Wildcats secured a 2-1 victory in overtime on Friday evening. Nicole Miller had the lone Minutewoman goal at Memorial Field.
Lindsey Nerbonne scored both goals for the Wildcats. She sealed the outcome with a hard shot at Emily Hazard that bounced overtop Hazard after the UMass goalie made the initial save. Hazard finished with seven stops in the loss, her first collegiate start and third career game played. Kelsey Rudert also made seven stops on the opposite end of the field in goal for New Hampshire in her first collegiate start.
Defense dictated play on both ends of the field until Miller broke the scoreless tie with 13 minutes, 20 seconds to play in the second half. Izzie Delario dribbled into the left side of the circle and slotted a pass to Miller opposite her. Miller fielded, took a dribble and fired across the cage into the left corner for the tally.
However, the Massachusetts lead only held until New Hampshire evened play seven minutes later when Nerbonne converted on a bouncing play in front of the goal.
New Hampshire led in shots, 17-10, including a 9-8 advantage in on-target attempts. Corners also favored the Wildcats, 7-2.
The contest marked the first for interim head coach Amy Robertson at the helm of the UMass program. She was a standout defender for the squad from 1984-87 and previously served as an assistant coach from 1992-96.
The Minutewomen conclude participation in the Wildcat Classic with a Sun., Aug. 28 contest against No. 16 Northwestern. The game will begin at 11 a.m.
