Johnny Prindle Added to Men's Swimming Incoming Class
June 24, 2016 | Men's Swimming & Diving
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men’s swimming and diving head coach Russ Yarworth announced today the addition of Johnny Prindle to the incoming class for the 2016-17 season. A native of Weston, Mass., Prindle will add to a deep freestyle sprint group while also providing strength in the breaststroke events.
“Johnny is just coming into his own with some good strong sprint freestyle speed and a Junior National cut in the 100 breaststroke. It looks like he has the potential to be a significant contributor to our Atlantic 10 title defense,” said Yarworth.
Prindle swam for the Bernal’s Gators Swim Club and was a part of four straight Massachusetts state championship titles at Weston High School. He was a state champion in the 100 yard breaststroke and as a member of the medley relay team. He is a four-time NSCA qualifier and has been a Boston Globe All-Scholastic selection during his prep career.
The incoming freshman has top career times of 21.34 seconds in the 50 freestyle, 47.72 seconds in the 100 free, and 1:41.58 in the 200 free along with 57.51 seconds in the 100 breast which put him just outside the top 10 all-time charts in those events at UMass. The 2016-17 class is now up to eight newcomers including Prindle. He will be joining Panagiotis Adroulidakis (Athens, Greece), Reece Donohue (Hopkinton, Mass.), T.C. Gowdy (Beverly Farms, Mass.), Alexander Madden (Stuart, Fla.), Harry Ortof (Bayside, N.Y.), Ryan Pedrick (Delran, N.J.), and Max Robertson (Wilmette, Ill.) who were previously announced.
