AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's basketball assistant coach Adam Ginsburg, recently named a Maccabi USA head coach, announced UMass video operations director Matt Vogel as his assistant coach for the U.S. Junior Boys' Basketball Team on Tuesday. Ginsburg and Vogel will assemble and guide the squad over the next 14 months as the duo begins preparations for Team USA's participation in the 2017 Maccabiah Games. The upcoming international competition will take place in Israel during July, 2017.

"I am excited for the opportunity to be an assistant coach for the United States Junior Boys' Basketball Team participating in the 20th Maccabiah Games next summer in Israel," Vogel said. "I am thankful to Coach Ginsburg for allowing me to be a part of his staff, and I look forward to the next 14 months. It is an incredible honor to be able to represent the United States in an international event, and one for which I am grateful."

At UMass, Vogel oversees all film management duties for the men's and women's basketball programs simultaneously. In addition, Vogel is responsible for the video editing operation, including the production of video highlights for coach and player review and maintenance of the film exchange between UMass and other NCAA teams. He previously served as operations coordinator following a summer 2014 promotion.

"I have known Matt since he was a 17-year old freshman at UMass working as a team manager," Ginsburg said. "His loyalty and work ethic to the University of Massachusetts basketball earned him a graduate assistantship and, since then, his role has grown each year as he constantly works to bring even more value to his operational role on-staff. Over the years we have spent many holidays together, be it a Hanukkah dinner or a Passover Seder. His positive energy and enthusiasm, coupled with his ability to build relationships, will make everyone on and around our team better. I am thrilled to share this special opportunity with him."

Prior to his move to the operational aspect of collegiate athletics, Vogel served four seasons as video coordinator. Vogel has spent more than a decade with the Minutemen under head coaches Derek Kellogg and Travis Ford. For the last six years, he has played a pivotal role working with the coaching staff to create scouting reports and highlights to facilitate team preparation and practice. Vogel also oversees the student managers on a day-to-day basis and has been the Director of the Derek Kellogg Basketball School for the past three years.

"I am very happy that Adam has chosen Matt to be his assistant coach representing our country and UMass," Kellogg said. "Matt is an extremely talented individual who will do a great job. His organizational skills and his strong work ethic will showcase Matt's talents. During his tenure at UMass, Matt has spoken of his aspirations to join the coaching ranks one day and this opportunity brings him a step closer to his dream. I wish Matt and Adam great success as they work together over the next 14 months."

Vogel graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2009 with a Bachelor's of Science in Sport Management and a minor in Sociology. In 2012, he earned a Master's degree in Higher Education.
