AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford announced on Sunday that women’s basketball head coach Sharon Dawley has been relieved of her duties. At the helm of the program for six seasons, Dawley compiled a record of 46-133 with a record of 12-18 in 2015-16.

“We thank Sharon for her solid efforts on behalf of UMass women’s basketball,” Bamford said. “We wish her well personally and professionally moving forward.”

A national search to fill the position is underway.

“We believe that our women’s basketball program has the necessary resources to compete for Atlantic 10 Championships and national postseason play,” Bamford added. “Our expectation of building a championship-caliber program presents an exciting opportunity for our department and our next head coach.”
