AMHERST, Mass. - After turning in several outstanding performances last week, men's lacrosse attack Buddy Carr, baseball outfielder Dylan Morris and Ana Yrazusta of women's tennis have been named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Student-Athletes of the Week. The trio will be honored on Wednesday, March 23 at the Weekly Sports Luncheon hosted in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center beginning at Noon.
Carr provided all three of his points after halftime on three goals in the 11-9 upset of No. 20 Penn State in Happy Valley. The final of his three goals went as the game-winner over the Nittany Lions while he scored on each of his three on-target shots. Carr had three of the team's final five goals as he led the Minuteman attack in offsetting Penn State's comeback efforts. The performance goes as Carr's third hat trick of the season and his sixth multi-point game through eight contests this year. Carr leads the Minutemen in points (19) and goals (14).
Morris helped the Minutemen to a 2-2 week that included pair of wins over Maine. He batted .500 for the week, going 8-for-16 with 6 RBI and five runs scored. He had 12 total bases, aided by a double and his first home run of the season and was also 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Against Maine, he hit .667 with five RBI in UMass’ pair of victories, going 6-for-9 at the plate over two games. So far this season, he has already surpassed his career high for RBI in a season (8 in 26 games as a freshman in 2014) with a team-high 10 in 10 games to begin the 2016 campaign.
