Records Smashed at David Hemery Valentine Invitational
February 12, 2016 | Women's Track & Field
BOSTON, Mass. - University of Massachusetts women's track and field saw records fall once again as five runners were in action at Boston University on Friday, competing at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Elizabeth Gulino, Olivia Weir, Melissa Beaupre and Emilie Cowan broke the UMass program record in the 4x400 meter relay with a combined time of 3 minutes, 48.62-seconds. The performance bested a mark set in 1986 and was good for sixth at the meet out of 53 teams.
Junior Heather MacLean had another record-setting day, as well. The Peabody, Mass. native was 11th in the mile run with a time of 4 minutes, 37.80-seconds, a time that currently ranks in the top-15 nationally. The career-best performance improved upon her program record set at the John Thomas Terrier Indoor Classic two weeks ago, which toppled a 20-year-old record.
Next up for the Minutewomen comes the Atlantic 10 Championship in Kingston, R.I. The two-day meet begins on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 9 a.m.
