PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - La Salle's Amy Griffin scored 20 points and Jamine Alston posted a double-double as the Explorers defeated the UMass women's basketball team 66-57 on Wednesday night at Tom Gola Arena. The Minutewomen were led by Kymber Hill who recorded a double-double of her own with a career-tying 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The loss dropped UMass to 6-17 overall and 0-11 in the Atlantic 10 as the Minutewomen prepare to host St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon (2 PM) at the Mullins Center. The Explorers improved to 4-20 overall and 1-10 in league play.

After trailing by as many as 14 points in the second quarter, the Minutewomen were able to close the gap in the third to just three points with 4:59 left in the quarter. Cierra Dillard drained a three-pointer, part of her 15-point effort in the game, to cut the La Salle lead to 42-39.

Back-to-back buckets from Maggie Mulligan (6 points, 7 rebounds) and Hill kept the Minutewomen within three points with 47 seconds left in the third. The Explorers closed the frame with a three from Adreana Miller and a lay-up by Griffin to push the lead back to eight, 52-44, heading into the fourth.

Just over two minutes into the fourth, Griffin nailed another three pointer to extend the lead to nine points, before the Minutewomen whittled the lead to 55-51 thanks to five free throws.

La Salle responded with a pair of lay-ups sandwiching a UMass turnover to go up 59-51 with 2:50 to go. The Minutewomen were again able to cut the deficit to four with 1:17 left in the game, but a three-pointer from Miller and four straight free throws in the final 14 seconds sealed the win.

La Salle led 34-27 at the half after leading by as many as 14 points in the second The Minutewomen were able to close the half on a 10-to-4 run over the final four minutes to pull within seven.

The game started with the Explorers jumping out to a 15-4 lead before an Alyssa Lawrence lay-up with 2:25 sparked a quick five-point jump for the Minutewomen. Following that, Dillard converted a three-point play to jump start the UMass offense.

For the game, UMass was 19-of-67 from the floor and 3-of-12 from the arc. La Salle hit 25-of-76 shots and was 4-of-16 from three-point range.
