Field Hockey Draws Monmouth for NCAA Play-In Game

Minutewomen secure third NCAA berth in last four seasons

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - University of Massachusetts field hockey will play Monmouth University in the NCAA Championship Play-In Round at Monmouth in West Long Branch, New Jersey, on Wed., Nov. 9. It marks the 26th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Minutewomen in program history and the third in the previous four seasons.

The winner of the play-in game moves on to face No. 2 seed and regional host Maryland on Nov. 12 at 11:30 a.m. North Carolina and Stanford complete the additional first round game at Maryland. The second round (Elite Eight) will be played on Nov. 13 while the semifinals (Final Four) occur on Nov. 18 and the 2016 NCAA Championship Game follows on Nov. 20.

Duke is the No. 1 seed while Syracuse is third and Penn State is the No. 4 seed. American and Kent State square off in the additional NCAA Play-In Game. Boston College, Connecticut, Delaware, Harvard, Louisville, Michigan, Princeton and Virginia complete the field of 18 teams.

It marks the first meeting between Massachusetts and Monmouth in the history of the programs. The Maroon and White are 7-1 all-time in play-in round action, including a 1-0 victory over Kent State in Amherst, Massachusetts, during the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
