Field Hockey Totals 3-2 Victory Over Lock Haven

Miller posts three points on goal and assist
AMHERST, Massachusetts - University of Massachusetts field hockey won its final regular season game with a 3-2 victory over Lock Haven at the Gladchuk Sports Complex on Friday afternoon. Nicole Miller tallied a goal and one assist while Anne Dijkstra and Nicole Kuerzi also scored in the triumph.
The Minutewomen improved to 11-7 overall and finished 6-2 in Atlantic 10 action. Lock Haven fell to 9-8 on the year with a 4-4 mark in league games. UMass secured a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship with the victory. The team's tournament seed is dependent on the outcome of additional Atlantic 10 games during the final weekend of the regular season.
Colleen McCabe put Lock Haven in front by a goal in the 13th minute on a penalty corner rebound shot; however, the lead only lasted until Dijkstra answered less than 90 seconds later. Massachusetts drew a corner of its own and Dijkstra converted after a blocked shot landed at her stick.
Miller pushed the Minutewomen in front at the 22:21 mark as she finished off a play from the left side with a shot into the center of the Lock Haven cage. Kuerzi added to the advantage with 9:24 to go in the half as the junior forward corralled a pass from Miller and bounced a shot off the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the year.
Lock Haven capped the first half offensive fireworks in the 30th minute as Megan Wenrich scored on a pass from McCabe.
After five first half goals on 14 combined shots, neither side found the back of the cage in the second half despite 15 attempts, including 10 from the Minutewomen. Emily Hazard finished with six saves for the win while Paige Stuppy had 11 to keep the game close for the Bald Eagles.
