Coast-To-Coast Battle in Beantown
UMass Men's Cross Country Battles To 13th In Beantown

BOSTON, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's cross country faced off against a field of tough competitors at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday in Franklin Park. Senior Ben Groleau paved the way for UMass at a meet that boasted 24 team entries, including Syracuse, Dartmouth, and Purdue, who took the top three spots, while the Minutemen finished 13th with 384 points.
Groleau was first across the finish line for the UMass in 50th out of a field of 189 runners. The senior completed the 8K course in 24 minutes, 57.4-seconds. Paolo Tavares was next, finishing with a 25 minute, 21.1-second run to claim 76th place.
Daniel Sheldon and Samuel Conway also managed to score in the top-100. Sheldon came in 87th at 25:27.6 while Conway ran 25:39.3 to claim 100th. Jay McMahon rounded out the top-five Minutemen finishes in 115th with a 25 minute, 52.6-second performance.
Next on the schedule for the Minutemen comes the Paul Short Invitational. This event is slated for Oct. 2 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., with a 10 a.m. start.
