The UMass men's soccer team will close out its non-conference schedule this weekend with a visit from Vermont to Rudd Field on Friday, Sept. 25 (4 PM) before taking to the road to face Brown on Sunday, Sept. 27 (4:30 PM). Admission to Friday's match at Rudd Field is free as is parking.

The Minutemen (1-7-0) are coming off a split week with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Hartford last Wednesday at Rudd Field before suffering a 1-0 loss at New Hampshire on Saturday night. In the win over the Hawks, Hartford struck first in the 21st minute of play before freshman Samuel Asamoah (Springfield, Mass.) tied the game in the 38th minute with his first career goal. In the 64th minute, fellow freshman Kevin Boino (Dalton, Mass.) notched his first career goal which served as the game-winner. On Saturday, the Minutemen and Wildcats played a scoreless first half before UNH was able to crack the deadlock in the 55th minute. The Minutemen were able to generate five scoring chances in the balance of the match, but were unable to find the equalizer.

Offensively, junior Ty Goncalves (Norwood, Mass.) and sophomore Alex DeSantis (Belchertown, Mass.) continue to lead the Minutemen in points with three each. Goncalves has a goal and an assist on the year, while DeSantis has three assists. Senior Lenny Sery (Worcester, Mass.), Asamoah and Boino round out the goal scorers for the Minutemen.

Defensively, the young back four are starting to gel as the Minutemen have allowed just four goals in the last three games including a pair of one-goal matches. The backline have cut down the number of opponent shots on goal from nearly 8.0 over the first five games to 5.3 during the last three outings. That's translated in a drop of goals allowed from 2.8 to 1.3 in those games.

Vermont enters Friday's match with a 3-3-1 overall record but is 1-3-0 on the road this season. The Catamounts are 2-0-1 in their last three outings with consecutive wins over Central Connecticut and Marist.

Brown is 3-2-0 this season coming off a pair of road losses at Georgia State and at Clemson last week. The Bears will host Florida Gulf Coast on Friday before facing UMass on Sunday.
