AMHERST, Mass. - With the addition of South Carolina and Wagner College, and a change to a home-and-home series with Appalachian State, University of Massachusetts Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford announced the completion of the 2016 Minutemen football schedule on Friday.

The Minutemen will play at South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium, in Columbia, S.C., on Oct. 22, 2016. With games at Florida and vs. Mississippi State (Gillette Stadium) already on the schedule, UMass will face three Southeastern Conference opponents during the season.

UMass will face Wagner for a Homecoming contest, at McGuirk Stadium, on Oct. 29, 2016. In order to accommodate the match-up, UMass' 2016 game at Appalachian State has been moved to Sept. 26, 2020.

"We are pleased to have finalized the opponents for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, respectively," Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford said. "Our 2016 schedule is extremely competitive and challenging. We are proud to have both the best slate of home games in UMass football history and away contests versus nationally-prominent programs. The combination of opponents will excite the Commonwealth and allow us to continue our growth as a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Independent program. Also, by finalizing our 2016 and 2017 schedules prior to the 2015 season, we met our goal to provide Minutemen supporters with three years of competitive match-ups that will ignite their investment in our program. It is a great time to be associated with Coach Whipple, his staff and our student-athletes. We are committed to building an exciting brand of Minutemen football."

In another scheduling change, UMass' 2021 game at Colorado will now be played Sept. 3 or Sept. 4, instead of the originally scheduled Sept. 11 date.
