AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts rowing program and head coach Jim Dietz revealed the team’s 2015-16 racing schedule Wednesday. The Minutewomen have a full fall season before their spring preparations ahead of the Atlantic 10 Championship on May 7, 2016.

The Maroon and White begin the year with a trip to the Head of the Oklahoma from Oct. 3-4, where a select group of Minutewomen will have the opportunity to race in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The fall begins for the entire squad with Oct. 10 participation at the Head of the Housatonic in Derby, Connecticut, and competition at the Seven Sisters Sculling Regatta near the UMass Rowing Boathouse in Hadley one day later.

The Minutewomen participate in the Head of the Charles, an annual tradition for the squad, from Oct. 17-18. UMass also challenges itself against national competition in the Small Boat Challenge (Oct. 30-31; Mercer, New Jersey) before Fall 2015 racing comes to a close at the Green Monster (Nov. 8; Dartmouth, New Hampshire).

The Minutewomen break up the winter months with a Jan. 10-17 training trip to DeLand, Florida, as the program continues its preparations for defense of its 2014 and 2015 Atlantic 10 and Dad Vail Regatta titles and NCAA championships participation.

The Minutewomen open 2016 spring racing on April 1, when the University of Connecticut stops by the shores of the Connecticut River in Hadley, Massachusetts, for head-to-head competition. One day later, UMass treks across the Commonwealth to face in-state rivals with Boston College and MIT.

The Knecht Cup is scheduled for April 9-10 in Mercer, New Jersey, prior to a quad-meet with Boston University, Dartmouth and Northeastern in Boston on April 16. After a two-week break, the Maroon and White return to the water in the Garden State at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Camden, New Jersey. The Minutewomen will attempt to defend their 2014 and 2015 A-10 crowns on May 7, with an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships going to the victor.

Another crucial title defense follows on May 13-14 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Massachusetts locked up the women’s title during its participation in the last two holdings of the event through strong performances by the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats.

The NCAA Championships will be held May 27-29 in Sacramento, California. To earn a spot in the event, the Minutewomen must claim victory at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championships or be chosen by the NCAA as an at-large entry.
