CAMBRIDGE, Mass - The UMass men's track & field squad wrapped up the final day of the New England Championship Saturday in Cambridge, Mass., finishing 20th of 37 teams with 12 points. Rhode Island took the lead at 104.50 points followed by Southern Connecticut State at second and Connecticut in third. The highlights of the day's competition included the Minutemen's 4x800 meter relay taking home Bronze and Jay McMahon's fifth-place showing in 3,000 meter steeplechase.

In the steeplechase, McMahon was fifth at 9 minutes, 15.44-seconds. Michael McNaughton captured 13th in the 800 meter run with his 1:52.72 performance and Cory Thomas took 20th in the 1,500 meter run at 3 minutes, 54.17-seconds.

The men's 4x800 meter relay squad claimed third place as Andrew Burke, Alexander Finestone, McNaughton and Russell Wells ran 7 minutes, 36.41 seconds to bronze. The 4x100 meter relay team of Corey Adelson, Youssef Elkorchi, Peter Farlow and Patrick Farnham took eighth at 43.04-seconds. The 4x400 relay team of Nicholas Ingham, Pater Farlow, Patrick Farnham and Adam Bonfilio placed 17th at 3:20.96.

In the field, Brett Davies claimed 8th place in discus throwing 141 feet, 7 inches. Kris Horn was 11th in high jump with a 6 foot, 6.25-inch leap and Deion Arneaud took 17th in triple jump at 43 feet, 10.50-inches.

UMass returns to the track next Friday for the IC4A Championships. The three-day meet will open on May 15. in Princeton, N.J. Start time is slated for 10:00 a.m.
